In 1996 several of us who were concerned about the growth of a “cattle mentality” in the treatment of persons seeking mental health services, began to pray, think, and dream. We reasoned it must be possible to offer services wherein people, individuals, couples, and families would receive highly individualized treatment and state-of-the-art therapy, all founded upon sound Biblical stewardship business principles. Prayerfully we took the step and formed The Antioch Group.
First two, then three, then four of us offered care based on our beliefs in Christ, and in the importance of meeting and treating our patients as individuals—the way the Lord did it.
God, in His goodness, heard our prayers and blessed us beyond our dreams. Now, years later, we have over twenty therapists serving Peoria and surrounding communities. We offer psychological services ranging from assessment (e.g., psychological testing), to addictions counseling, to dispute mediation services, to therapy for psychological trauma. Our specialists serve patients from ages 3 to 103.
Yet despite our growth we do not lose sight of our original dream of treating people as “persons” rather than as numbers. In fact, our guiding motto is the same as it was in the beginning: “It’s not the number; it’s the lives.” We think those are words to serve by.
