What is “coaching”?
“Coaching” is training or development in which a “coach” supports an individual in achieving a specific personal or professional goal. The person sets the goals, and the coach guides the person.
Is coaching right for me?
Ideal coaching clients are generally well-functioning individuals who are desirous of pursuing a process of self-discovery that leads to strategies for further development and growth.
What can I expect from coaching?
Your coach will help you develop an agenda, identify your values, identify your strengths, and help you articulate your current life and/or career purpose. Your coach will support your efforts to engage in life-long learning, navigate obstacles, manage energy-draining circumstances, honor challenges, and celebrate successes. The coach’s main goal is to help you develop strategies to maximize your desired outcomes.
What’s the difference between mental health counseling and coaching?
In mental health counseling, the person has a mental health condition or past trauma and the therapist helps bring the individual to normal functioning and healing. In coaching, the person is functioning at normal or above normal rates and the coach provides guidance for further development or improvement. The coach doesn’t necessarily have all the answers, but is skilled in bringing out the best in people.
